Summer at Tangalooma – Moreton Island

The Whales have completed their migration back to Antartica for this year with their new calves. Whilst the whales have been wonderful to watch we now are heading into an exciting time at Tangalooma. The temperature is rising and the water is enticing. Now is the time to dust off your winter blues and head over to Tangalooma to enjoy the long lazy summer days with nothing to do on your holiday but enjoy the beautiful sunsets, and the white beaches that go on forever. If you have a 4WD you can explore Moreton Island which is 40km’s from Brisbane and is 38km’s long and 9 km’s wide. Moreton Island has three small townships, Bulwer, Cowan and Kooringal and also has a Large Resort - Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort. The Island is serviced by a Passenger and Vehicle Barge the “Micat” which leaves from the mouth of the Brisbane River at Whytes island. Moreton Island is a National Park which conserves and protects the natural areas, wildlife and historical sites. There is a lot of History at Moreton Island including the Cape Moreton Lighthouse which was the first lighthouse built from local sandstone and still operates today. Moreton Island was a key centre to early days of Brisbanes penal settlement. During the years between 1952 and 1962 Tangalooma operated a whaling station processing about 600 whales a year. Tangalooma is a Aboriginal word meaning “fish meeting place”. More on Tangalooma and Moreton Island next time. In the meantime come and enjoy what is Brisbanes Best kept secret. Stay in clean, comfortable Absolute Beachfront accommodation at Tangalooma Resort. Jenny & Bill Davis www.tangaloomavillas.com.au
